Love this place. It is very impressive and classy to bring a date to and the sushi is excellent.
I had been wanting to go simply to see what the inside looks like; the outside is very cool and contemporary and the interior does not disappoint. Dress up a bit and you'll feel very much at home. No idea why you would want to do take out from here.
The volcano maki was the stand-out favorite for us. With alcohol the two of us came to 65 before tip and we probably could have spent more. Come when you have time to enjoy the evening and make it last.

This was an amazing date. As a couple, we have kind of a 50's vibe so it was perfect. I recommend it as an impressive, creative, and fun date.
Cascade is a cool hour from the city easy, probably more for you since we started on North and just headed west. If your date doesn't know where you are taking them, it can be quite amusing to watch them guess what the hell could be out past 355 worth going to!
It wasn't too crowded when we went which was a Friday; probably because it was late in the season. We didn't interact with anyone else there which gives the whole experience an intimate vibe....like it's a private showing.
The concession is very cheap but limited. I recommend coming prepared and maybe just buying a jumbo fountain soda when you get there.
Put this place on your list of places to take a date: you'll have a ball.

Just In Time Cleaners

these guys are my neighborhood dry cleaners. they also happen to be in the same storefront as my neighborhood hand auto-wash and cell phone store. what can I say...that's how we do. It may seem a little ghetto but these guys do a bang up job. in fact everyone in the building does a bang up job. 4 shirts and 2 pants came to $12, which seems good to me; turn around was about half a week.
they also have a fish tank with some of the largest fish i have ever seen in a 15-20 gallon tank. if not for the clothes...do it for the fish.

I won't lie to you, this place is a mess. That being said, the man who works there (owner?) is very friendly, helpful and does good work.
From the looks of the inside it's not exactly a place I'd trust. It's a big jumble of convenience store, and drugstore products with fliers strewn everywhere and no organization whatsoever. I'm not exactly sure how one would "browse" in a place like that. They would probably as the proprietor for what they were looking for and he'd get it.
I really like the guy who works there. He insisted I pay first, which I understand, but is not exactly normal and considering how the place looked I was hesitant. I got new soles on my favorite ankle boots and the price and time was average. What was nice was he gave me a call the day my shoes were done to remind me to pick them up. Especially nice when he told me the store would be closed all next week. He even gave me a shoe horn when I picked up my shoes.
The work looks good. The main factor in whether I'll go back is how well the new soles hold up. I dunno, the place is crazy and I like that. It's the dive bar of cobblers....so be trendy and check it out.

this is one of a national chain of high end fish and wine restaurants. in this context, i was less than enthused by the quality of service and the quality of the food. I think it is a good option for the location, but a bit on the pricey side for what it delivers....as opposed to what i advertises that it delivers.
It was pretty disorganized from the start. the three of us were seated at a table for 6 which was right next to an open table for 4. and there was a party of 6 waiting. this had to have been a mistake. Next we got the snobbiest waiter I've had in a while. This really surprised me for a chain restaurant in Witchita, being from Chicago myself. Because I ordered beer instead of wine, he didn't treat me very well for the rest of the evening.
We started with the ahi sashimi appetizer, which was sesame seed encrusted and pan seared (!). If you can't get fresh enough fish to serve sushi....don't call it sushi to begin with. I was disappointed but my dining companions enjoyed it. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with Lemon Butter sauce which was quite good. The others at my table had filet, shrimp, and scallop combos which they seemed very happy with as well.
My experience at Bonefish lacked the polish I would expect from a $50+ meal. My impression is you're experience may vary depending on your server, but for me, there are better choices close by that I would return to.

Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy

had a wonderful meal here with co-workers. try to sit outside on the patio if possible and weather permitting; it is a delightful setting to enjoy good company and good food. The food was really above average and quite good. I had the enchiladas with a variety of interesting sauces and salsas. My dining companions spoke highly of their food as well.
The inside of the restaurant was too cold with the AC. If we had not found a table outside i think the temperature would have been unbearable. Also the service is slow; not in the good relaxing way but in the why haven't we even placed our order yet sort of way. the timing was a bit off.
I don't know much about what else wichita has to offer for fine mexican dining but i'd say Abuelo's is a sure bet for high quality food and drinks in an intimate setting.

this bar is seriously like the worst bar. It reminds me of some of the more disgusting house parties I've been too: good loud music, cheap drinks, trash everywhere. Sometimes the cd playing was better than the set but hey...at least theres that. seriously if anyone wants to argue with me about how gross this place is just ask them to describe the bathrooms. don't get me wrong I had a great time and I thought the whole thing was quite amusing. if there was a good line up there in the future I would for sure go back. it's a cheap drunk with a living room feel and good music. also if you get a chance to see the Javelins live, do so.
This is just about as typical as you can get for cheap chinese food. Nothing special here. Why would I go here instead of Szechwan Kingdom right up the road? I wouldn't.

Restaurant Traspasada Inc. No. 1
Category: Mexican
Neighborhood: Avondale
I'm surprised to be first on this one. Quality food and drinks here for cheap. It's right on the corner of California and Elston and has great storefront seating. The atmosphere is really pretty thin, there's a jukebox, a monitor with soccer, a racing arcade game and a window into the kitchen. The booths by the windows are nice but the rest of the tables are plastic. The tables are big though so it would be good for groups.
Everything about the food and the presentation felt very authentic to me. I know it is obnoxious to have a very white city kid tell you what authentic ethnic cuisine is....but I'll eat my hat if Traspasada isn't. I had enchiladas verdes with steak and a carta blanca. The cerveza was served with lime and salt on the side and was $3 (for an import i think that is quite reasonable). The enchiladas were delicious and spicy! the whole dinner was around $10 (I think lunch would cost you half that). Remember to pay at the counter.
They also deliver with a minimum of $15 and are open pretty late every day of the week (until 1 or 2). The drink list includes cocktails and all the mexican favorites you'd expect. I know I didn't make the inside sound very nice but I think it would be fun to go for dinner and a few on your way out with friends. Since it's close to me, i'll be going a lot. maybe you'll see me there.

The N Restaurant is a latin bar which is a completely different experience from a mexican bar or any other type of bar. I think the other reviews may have been expecting something else, or didn't give it a chance to grow on them. Like the first time you go to a dive bar, or to a basement party, or a 5 star restaurant, give yourself time to acclimatize and begin enjoying yourself.
